Ryan is an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist based in occupied Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone territory (Palo Alto, California). A survivor of childhood sexual abuse and a former active-duty U.S. Marine (1998-2002), Ryan’s healing journey has been deeply informed by plant medicine, ceremony, and community. He is the founder of Compassionate Veterans, a nonprofit through which he has facilitated over 1,500 suicide-prevention support groups for veterans across the U.S. and beyond.

Ryan’s approach to care is relational, non-pathologizing, and grounded in Healing-Centered Engagement, Liberation Psychology and the practice of acompañamiento—a commitment to walk alongside others with presence, humility, and care. His work is supported by training in Brainspotting, Psychedelic Liberation, Whole Health Coaching, and Certified Peer Support.

Believing that healing is both personal and political, Ryan has been active in community-led efforts to reform cannabis policy in California and decriminalize psychedelics in Oakland. He has also organized with Indigenous-led water protectors and stood in protest of police violence. These experiences inform his deep care for veterans, BIPOC, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities navigating trauma, substance use, moral injury, and spiritual crisis. Ryan brings a grounded, culturally attuned, and justice-oriented presence to his work with seekers of care.

Ryan views cannabis and psychedelics as powerful allies—but only when they support the dismantling of the systems that create suffering. He offers therapy as an invitation to restore right relationship with Spirit, self, community, and the world.
